About Janine
Recovery is deeply personal, and so is the path that led Janine Krok to become an addiction counsellor.
After many years of battling addiction, co-dependency, trauma, and the emotional complexities that so often accompany them, Janine found lasting recovery and a renewed sense of purpose. Her experience has given her an intimate understanding of addiction — not only the behaviours themselves, but the denial, fear, shame, loss of identity and isolation that can exist beneath them.
Today, Janine brings both lived experience and professional training to her counselling practice. She holds a three-year Counselling Diploma from the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) and supports individuals affected by alcohol and substance dependency, gambling addiction, sex and love addiction, co-dependency, eating disorders, and the wider emotional challenges that can accompany addiction and recovery.
Janine understands that recovery is rarely a straight line. It can require difficult conversations, acceptance, surrender, accountability and the courage to let go of behaviours and beliefs that may have defined a person for years. It can also mean learning how to set boundaries, rebuild relationships and, perhaps most importantly, begin discovering who you are without addiction.
Her approach is compassionate and supportive, but always honest. Janine does not believe in judgement, quick fixes or promises she cannot keep. Instead, she meets people where they are, creating a safe and non-judgemental space where they can be seen, heard and supported while doing the work that meaningful change requires.
At the heart of Janine’s practice is integrity. She knows what it means to lose yourself, to start again and to discover that life on the other side of addiction can hold a freedom you may once have thought impossible.
For Janine, counselling is more than a profession. It is a purpose born from experience and a belief that what she has learnt through her own recovery can be used to help someone else find theirs.
No matter your age, your history or how far addiction has taken you from the life you want to live, Janine believes it is never too late to begin again.
There is hope beyond addiction.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need addiction counselling?
You don’t need to reach rock bottom before asking for help. If addiction, compulsive behaviours, or unhealthy coping mechanisms are affecting your relationships, work, health, or overall wellbeing, counselling can provide the support and guidance needed to regain control.
What types of addiction do you work with?
Janine supports individuals experiencing alcohol and substance addiction, gambling addiction, sex and love addiction, co-dependency, eating disorders, and the emotional challenges that often accompany addiction, including trauma, grief, anxiety, and relationship difficulties.
Do I need to be sober before starting counselling?
Not at all. Many people seek support while they are still struggling with addiction. The first step is simply being willing to have an honest conversation.
What can I expect during my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity to get to know one another in a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental environment. Together, you’ll discuss your current situation, your goals, and begin developing a personalised path forward.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is respected at all times, and counselling sessions are conducted in a confidential and professional environment, except where disclosure is required by law to protect your safety or the safety of others.
Do you work with rehabilitation centres and medical professionals?
Yes. Janine works collaboratively with rehabilitation centres, clinics, and other healthcare professionals to provide ongoing support before, during, and after treatment where appropriate.
How do I book an appointment?
Simply get in touch via phone, email, or the contact form on this website to arrange an initial consultation. Janine will guide you through the next steps and answer any questions you may have before your first session.
